In this age of technological breakthrough, infinite exploration, cyberspace and virtual world, it is an unopposed notion that Science has started the foundation of our present time.

Gone are the days when man fears the twinkling of stars, cowers at the passing of comets, and, understands not the phenomena manifesting before his very eyes.

We have reached the era of enlightenment which was ushered by scientific discoveries contributed by a long list of names. They, the men and women of Science, have struggled to prove false to views widely accepted in different phases of time. The nullification of fiction and validation of facts are two catalyzing factors that salvaged humanity from the bondage of illogical thinking and uncultured practices.

Through Science, advancements in the field of Medicine, Education, Commerce, Forestry and many others have been made possible, enabling the betterment of our lives. The unbounded forms of communication, the cure for lingering diseases, the water and electric system, the ease and comfort of cyber transaction, the demystification of century-defying secrets, the unorthodox educational practices and the many acts impossible for the yesteryears are produce of Science. It has made us live no longer in caves and think no longer like cave men. In this regard, we, teachers and students alike, must view science neither as a mere neither subject nor a course requirement, because it is an essential part of our lives and an important aspect of our living.

Figuratively, as the DNA dictates our height, our built, the color of our skin, the glow of our eyes and the personality we have, Science sets the structure of our society and dictates the quality of our living. It structures the foundation of our very republic, ensures the welfare of our people and safeguards the survival of our race. Consequently, we realize the fact that the flame of science should not burn less for it to continuously shed the blessings of its light. It must be further noted that from the young generation new sets of men and women should take the challenges to be disciples of this wisdom.

Because, the world is in great need of them. Today, in the flourishing of the civilization, pressing concerns abound – the global warming, climate change and other forms of silent violence. These problems challenge us in the academe to develop young minds into critical ones. Such is the action that we must do boldly – for the sake of many. Therefore, Educators must bring Science not closer to the students’ heart but into the heart of the young. Students, in a much similar manner, should see the meaning of Science reflected not by the pages of books, but by the realities and necessities of life.

Let us embark on such a great journey – the quest of making our youth men and women of science. Because, the youth will truly be a hope for the land and the world when they become scientific in thought and in deed.

Thank you for your indulgence! May God bless us all.
